Heated Floor Installation

In addition to providing comfort during autumn and winter, a heated floor (also known as radiant floor) allows for substantial savings on your heating costs. A heated floor emits infrared radiation that transforms into heat upon contact with objects and walls in the room. The heat then gently radiates into the air (unlike electric baseboards that blow air), resulting in a more uniform and lasting warmth.
Heated floors can be installed in all rooms of the house to serve as a heating system. When used as the primary heating system in a room, it consumes significantly less energy compared to electric baseboards, approximately 12 watts per square foot.
Whether in the bathroom, kitchen, bedrooms, basement, or living room, the system can be activated in winter and turned off in summer, or used only when the room is occupied. A heated floor can be installed beneath ceramic or natural stone tiles, as well as under vinyl flooring, engineered wood, or hardwood.
How is Heated Floor Installation Performed?
We use Schluter's DITRA-HEAT systems, which integrate the DITRA membrane into the heated floor. This membrane provides optimal waterproofing, support, vapor management, and durability for the installation. The DITRA-HEAT studs are configured to securely hold the DITRA-HEAT-E-HK heating cable.
We insert the heating cable through the studs to create customized heating zones. The 5.5 mm thickness limits the tile thickness and the height of transitions with lower floor coverings. With this system, the cables do not need to be covered with self-leveling cement over the membrane.
After installing your heated floor, we replace your thermostat with one specifically designed for heated floors. We then connect the heating cables to your electrical panel and add a ground fault circuit interrupter to secure your electrical installation. Finally, we install the floor covering of your choice.
